We're Taking a Break...
With a heavy heart, we need to share some bittersweet news. After much reflection, we’ve made the tough decision to wind down our paddock-to-plate operations at Firebreak Farm for the foreseeable future.
Our journey together has been nothing short of amazing. Over the last few years, we’ve had the privilege of growing our ethical and regenerative produce for you and sharing in the joy of farm-to-table experiences. It’s been incredibly rewarding to see our meat find its way to your family’s kitchens and tables.
However, the challenges we’re facing have become increasingly overwhelming. Balancing the demands of running a farm with the complexities of a paddock-to-plate business has taken a toll on our family’s physical and mental well-being. We’ve come to realise that sustaining this pace is no longer feasible without compromising our health and happiness. We believe in the importance of a balanced and healthy work environment, and this decision is a step toward finding that balance.
The rising costs of labour, equipment, and resources have also added to our struggles. Maintaining the high standards we’ve set for our produce while managing these increasing expenses has become unsustainable. Our commitment to quality remains strong, but the economic pressures have made it clear that we need to rethink our approach.
Though we’re stepping away from paddock-to-plate for now, our dedication to our regenerative farming remains unwavering. We’re excited to explore new avenues to support our community and care for the environment, even if they look a bit different from our past work. In this endeavour we are excited to increase our focus on regenerative beef production practices, whilst winding back on our pork operations.
Our pasture-raised pigs have played a remarkable role in enhancing Firebreak Farm’s soil health. By foraging and naturally tilling the land, they’ve helped us create richer, more fertile soil, whilst also taking care of unpalatable ‘weeds’ in the most natural way possible. Their contribution goes beyond just their own well-being; they’ve been integral to our mission of building a resilient and thriving ecosystem. We are deeply grateful for the positive impact they’ve made.
We now look forward to the next stage of our farming journey, where we continue to nurture our soil through rotational cattle grazing. We also remain deeply committed to connection to land and are excited to continue to welcome guests to our farm through our luxury, off-grid accommodation - The Firebreak.
We want to extend our deepest gratitude to you. Your support and enthusiasm have meant the world to us. It’s been an honour to be part of your lives and to share our farm with you. In the meantime, please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns. As always, you can continue to follow our farming journey through our Facebook and Instagram pages - Firebreak Farm and The Firebreak.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being a vital part of our journey. We cherish the time we’ve spent together and look forward to staying connected in new and meaningful ways!
